The challenge

In July 2026, a boiler pipe at a zinc processing facility suffered a sudden failure. The installation operates in a sulphur-containing process environment where temperature, pressure and process media place significant demands on materials and welded connections.

Because the failure occurred during the weekend, minimising downtime was critical. But the priority was not simply to restore the pipe as quickly as possible: the repair had to be durable and practical to execute within the available shutdown window.

Our assignment

CQM Welding was called in for an urgent intervention and responded within 24 hours, on a Sunday. Together with the customer’s technical team, we assessed the failure and determined the most appropriate repair strategy, then executed the repair on site.

Our approach

Joint assessment. Rather than immediately proceeding with a standard repair, we evaluated the situation with the customer and weighed technical integrity, material and welding considerations, operating conditions, accessibility, required downtime, long-term reliability and efficiency of execution.

On-site execution. Once the repair strategy was agreed, we mobilised the required personnel, welding equipment and materials. The intervention was coordinated closely with the customer’s operations, maintenance and safety requirements.
